"We empower students to achieve their goals by helping them define their own paths—because every child is unique, and so is their journey to success.“
Charles Rotenberg began using the Lego Mindstorms Robotics System from its origins in 1998. In addition, he has used the Vex Robotics systems extensively for building and competitions. Accordingly, he has provided instruction to thousands of students over his teaching career in Los Angeles and Toronto. Since joining the Toronto French School in 2014 to build a competitive robotics and math program, he has coached and mentored students in enrichment programs, camps and clubs, and robotic competitions for children in grades 2 through 8. Many of his first students are now graduating and have chosen engineering and computer science careers in Canada’s top university programs. More importantly, these students have taken the experience of failing to succeed into other life pursuits such as competitive swimming, game design and music. A past member of the CGA (Certified General Accountants) society of Ontario, I have been teaching STEM courses for the past 15 years in Los Angeles and Toronto. In the summer of 2017, the BizKids Academy began in Toronto as a summer weekly program using much of the framework listed above with an emphasis on 3D printing to prototype an idea for a product. At present, while the framework for this course remains the same, many new online software options have been added to provide students with a full complement of tools to fully achieve their ideas and creativity. I put the “Enterprise into STEM’ to inspire a new generation of entrepreneurs brokering technology, collaboration, and creativity for fun and profit.
